There was an article in yesterday's (January 4th) edition of the USA Today that said college bowl game attendance is down.

Is there anyone who is shocked by this?

People are trying to keep their roofs over their head and food in their bellies. Are we really so surprised that less people want to or can spend thousands of dollars for tickets and travel to a game that means so much nothing? The bowl games are not even as important as a regular season game for the most part.

When will the college football powers that be realize that the only bowl game that matters is the one that actually decides the national championship? It isn't enough that people pay outrageous prices for season tickets and drive for hours to go to a home game My Rooting Interest University, but now you wonder why they don't want to pay even more outrageous prices and travel even further for games that are less important than the week 1 regular season game against the Little Sisters of the Poor?

I mean did you ever really care that your team was the Meineke Car Care Bowl winner? Did you rush to the store to pick up your school's commemorative Poulan Weed Eater Bowl T-shirt? What about your Champs Sports Bowl memorabilia?

The national championship game is on Monday January 9th. This is the only bowl that any fan should be spending money on. Alabama fans (Yaay me!) and LSU fans. That's it. If you root for any other school, you should be online debating which incoming freshman would make a better 7th string water boy and waiting for spring football. And sending lots of letters, cards and emails to college presidents urging them to wake up and smell the declining attendance, TV ratings and REAL interest in a flawed and broke system that does nothing but perpetuate a massive fraud upon the sports fans of the world.
