I'm back for a bit but back on the road in a couple of days.

WVU is in the Big XII. They will fight like he!! to get in next year. Why?

I think they've been actively recruiting in Texas the past year.

Houston Kinkaid QB Ford Childress has committed to go to WVU. He's a 3 star QB, but he verbally committed w/o a visit. 3 star DE Noble Nowachakgu from Wylie had committed earlier w/o a visit. This makes me think that these players are really sold on the program or that they marginal players who can play at this school and still visit Texas. I'm inclined to believe the former.

I don't know about Nowachakgu, but I do a bit about Childress. He's the son of former NFLer Ray Childress, a long time Oiler defensive stalwart who went to Texas A&M. Kinkaid does not play UIL in Texas but is TAPPS, and they have become a dominant force on that scene with Childress being the trigger man in the Oregon hurry up offense. I've seen them play and it is a true hurry up, not a no huddle. While it is hurry up, it is a pro style set that Kinkaid runs. They just finished up a perfect season by beating arch-rival St. John's 28-7 at Rice Stadium, which is where this game is annually played as it is the longest running annual game in the city.

So much for the side info. What I think is going here is that Torgorson is realizing he might need to go to more or pro type offense and that he needs to recruit hard in TX. A player like Childress could give him an entree into getting more skilled athletes from the Lone Star state. WVU being admitted into the conference then becomes no-brainer for the conference.

While I think that the Mountaineers will have to settle for 3 star calibre right now (b/c they likely wouldn't start at UT or OU), they can build on the program if other sees they that Texas HS players are getting PT.

In a weird way, the Big XII wants WVU b/c their spirit is most like Texas A&M and they Mountaineers have a real shot at fleecing at list some mid-level talent in TX from going to the SEC.
