   NASCAR is trying to break up the two car super draft and by the looks of tonights demolition derby, it looks like the rule changes will end the super draft.

The most significant change is the cooling package with a less consumption in the radiator forcing the drivers to pull out and not push another car for a break away run.

The 2012 restrictor plate changes are as follows.

Smaller radiators(Maximum of 2 gallon capacity)

Smaller overflow tank(Maximum capacity of a half gallon)

Radiator inlet is moved up closer into the front center bumper area

Rate reduction in the springs - softer springs

Smaller rear spoiler - down 1/2 inch from last year

Base line restrictor plate of 29/32 inch(1/64 inch larger than last years Daytona 500)

No in car radio communication between team drivers and other team drivers

The whole purpose of the two exhibition races before the Daytona 500 is so the teams to be able to work with their engine packages and see how they relate to race conditions under the new rule changes for this year.

It looks like NASCAR has succeeded by what I saw in tonights race. The drivers tried to pull out in two car super drafts and couldn't break away from the pack because of the cooling system running high on their gage.

I notice some race cars getting real squirmy and that is due to the rear spoiler being smaller and not having the down force they had a year ago. 

I don't see NASCAR tweaking the rules they laid down like they have done in the past, only after the Daytona 500 if speeds get out of control. Why I say after the Daytona 500? Because the race car used during the exhibition races are back up cars and not the primary race car for the Daytona 500.

So what I take from tonights race is that the super draft is gone for the duration of a 500 mile race, no more pushing for a cushion and if you do,  its best used for a 1/3 of a mile for a win.  Pack racing is back! YEAH
