Paterno to resign?
Category: CFB Hot Topics

We don't have all the facts in this story, but this paragraph from an article today is very disturbing:

"And in 2002, Kelly said, a graduate assistant saw Sandusky sexually assault a naked boy, estimated to be about 10 years old, in a team locker room shower. The grad student and his father reported what he saw to Paterno, who immediately told Curley, prosecutors said."

Apparently, this guy Sandusky retired in 1999, but was allegedly still using Penn State facilities to lure young boys.  If Paterno was really was informed of this in 2002, his obligations in this matter extend way beyond just informing the AD about it.  Whether he covered himself legally buy informing the AD is irrelevant.

The impression left by the information we've gotten so far is that all these guys were trying to sweep this thing under rug, effectively leaving Sandusky free to prey on more boys.  There is also a distinct likelihood that there was knowledge of this guys behavior well before 2002.  He started his "foundation" for at risk youths way back in 1977.

Yet another example of athletics gone wild.  How many criminals out there keep getting protected by the law and other institutions because they generate profits in athletics?  When you let them off, you're just encouraging the other egomaniacs to abuse the law and people around them.
