Ad lib...

Off the cuff...

He has an Asian wife...

All of us have had slips of the tongue...

Said something we’d like to take back...

In my book...

He gets a mulligan...

Put him back on the air immediately...

HOWEVER...

The folks at ESPN know better...

You mean to tell me that nobody caught it???

The World Wide Leader???

Owned by Disney???

So hypersensitive to stuff like that???

And nobody caught it???

Nobody issued a memo???

Maybe they didn't...

HOWEVER...

I have my doubts...

Come on, ESPN...

You deal with puns all the time...

Even if it wasn’t intentional...

It was definitely in the danger zone...

A play on words...

But perhaps because it’s about an Asian...

And not about an African-American...

With all of their outspoken activists...

The sensitivity button didn’t go off...

PERHAPS...

Let’s now fast forward to the headline...

The writer of the headline...

Was fired...

He called it an...

“Honest mistake”...

And has used the phrase hundreds of times...

And didn’t think of the negative connotations...

I am not here to judge one’s motives...

Anthony answers to a higher power...

Does he deserve to be fired???

Nope...

Give him his job back in two weeks...

Unless he's had issues in the past...

Here’s my take...

Anthony should know better...

ESPN should know better...

You guys deal with puns ALL the time...

I have written hundreds of radio commercials...

Jokes...

Most of them bad...

As you already know....

Blogs...

Comedy...

I am a pun machine...

It’s my mindset because I am a writer...

Puns are used all the time for headlines...

That’s why I am shocked nobody caught it...

And that Anthony didn’t even think about it...

Give me a break...

I get all of the irritation over political correctness...

But if this is the game we are forced to play...

By the media...

And the activists...

Then don’t squawk when we call YOU on the carpet...

You mean to tell me nobody caught it???

Nobody even thought of it???

Nobody giggled when they saw it???

Or even shared it with somebody else???

Give me a another break...

When my son showed it to me...

We laughed embarrassingly...

I got it IMMEDIATELY...

And we agreed it was in poor taste...

Not worthy of a firing...

But definitely a reprimand...

Or a mini suspension...

ESPN should have been proactive...

Not reactive...

It is REALLY hard for me to believe...

Given the mindset of the business...

That nobody...

Absolutely nobody caught it...

I am not that gullible...

So, ESPN...

If someone utters or writes the infamous...

OJ/Cancun joke...
